Artist's Statement: An adobe chapel sits in the distance, alone, on top of a sloping hill. Serene landscapes that welcome a solitary tree and paths that have no beginning, nor any tangible ending, beckon us. Framed within this whisper of silence are Ann Huston's pastels on sandpaper, expressing a presence of quiet strength.
Her country roads meander across the landscape of human experience to private places within; and remembrances of forgotten moments are illuminated, not from some unknown, outside source, but from the light that emanates from within Ann Huston's pastels. Welcoming this respite from the outside world, we become an integral part of her landscapes.
Ann Huston's pastels on sandpaper are a continuing study of the dichotomy of the human spirit: fragile yet strong, distant but accessible, private and open, always offering us a glimpse of ourselves.
