Victoria Taylor-Gore is most known for her rich and dreamlike soft pastels. Themes vary in her pastels, but they all share a surreal, symbolic quality. Simplified forms, rich contrasting color, and dramatic use of light in Victoria’s work tell enigmatic visual stories.



Strong directional compositions and exaggerated perspective lead viewers into Victoria’s unique world. Often Victoria’s pastels depict the mysterious atmosphere of twilight, inspired by what Carols Castaneda defined in his book Tales of Power, “…twilight is the crack between the worlds. It is the door to the unknown.”



Photography and experimental filmmaking are also an important part of Victoria’s artistic vocabulary. Painting, filmmaking, and photography deal with the same essential design components and tell visual stories. Creating photographs and making short films has led Victoria to consider composition, lighting, and color with a fresh eye. Most of her short films, pastels, and photographs share the same surreal and symbolic quality as her dream like pastels.



Victoria Taylor-Gore received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1983 from West Texas A & M University and an MFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1985. Victoria has exhibited her work professionally in galleries across the United States for the past 34 years. Victoria is represented by the Canyon Road Contemporary in Santa Fe, Wilder Nightingale Fine Art in Taos, and Jane Hamilton Fine Art in Tucson, AZ


Victoria was an Assistant Professor of Art at Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas for over 18 years. She served AC as Chair of Visual Arts, Dean of the School of Creative Arts, and finally Dean of Liberal Arts until her early retirement in January 2019. Victoria currently lives and works as a full-time artist in Amarillo, Texas. Living in the under the vast sky of the Texas Panhandle is a constant source of wonder and inspiration for Victoria.
