Victoria Taylor-Gore is most known for her rich and dreamlike soft pastels. Themes vary in her pastels, but they all share a surreal, symbolic quality. Simplified forms, rich contrasting color, and dramatic use of light in Victoria’s work tell enigmatic visual stories.
Strong directional compositions and exaggerated perspective lead viewers into Victoria’s unique world. Often Victoria’s pastels depict the mysterious atmosphere of twilight, inspired by what Carols Castaneda defined in his book Tales of Power, “…twilight is the crack between the worlds. It is the door to the unknown.â€
Photography and experimental filmmaking are also an important part of Victoria’s artistic vocabulary. Painting, filmmaking, and photography deal with the same essential design components and tell visual stories. Creating photographs and making short films has led Victoria to consider composition, lighting, and color with a fresh eye. Most of her short films, pastels, and photographs share the same surreal and symbolic quality as her dream like pastels.
