P J Garoutte, whose roots are in Signes, France, was born in Freistatt, MO and grew up in Hoberg and Mt Vernon MO. In the late 1950's she worked for Hallmark Cards, Kansas City, MO and attended Kansas City Art Institute.
Garoutte studied watercolor with Robert E. Wood, Millard Sheets, Charles Reid and Milford Zornes in the 1970's.
P J is a past president of New Mexico Watercolor Society and won many national and regional awards.
Garoutte switched to oil painting and moved to Taos, NM in 1988 with husband Don Brackett and has recently added 'organic abstraction' to the body of work of an extensive career.
